Photography Tutorial - 4 : Shutter Speed
Mar 10th, 2008 | By Rosh PR | Category: Photography, TutorialShutter speed is the amount of time a shutter is open. the total exposure is proportional to this exposure time, or duration of light reaching the film or image sensor. Shutter speed is one of the factor that effects the exposure of a photograph. Shutter speed is mesured in seconds.
The more time a shutter is kept open more the light is let into the image sensor & more the exposure is given to the photograph. This is called slow shutter speed. It is often used in low light conditions, extending the time until the shutter closes, and increasing the amount of light gathered. Faster shutter speed is used to freeze fast-moving subjects, for example at sporting events.
In the above image the shutter speed is 8 Seconds. The person in the picture is made to move from one position to another giving 4 seconds for one position. The sensor imprints the position which is exposed for long. That is why the movement from one position to another is not visible. You should have a very low lighted room for this kind photography because the long exposure will provide lot of light into your sensor. If there is too much of light the image will get over exposed.
This picture was taken with a fast shutter speed of 1/400 Seconds to capture the water getting splattered. While taking these kind of photographs one important thing to keep in mind is to have enough amount of lighting in the room.
