AMD and Redhat migrate Virtual Machine’s across different CPU architectures

Nov 25th, 2008 | By Premnath Sah | Category: Software, Technology

AMD AND REDHAT have just done the so called impossible, and demonstrated VM live migration across CPU architectures. Not only that, they have demonstrated it across CPU vendors, potentially commoditising server processors.

The concept is simple, click a button, and your VM moves from one machine to the next. The execution for similar architectures has been done for ages, AMD can do it from E-Step Opterons to a promise of Magny Cours. Intel is a little more restrictive, but they can do it between iCore iNumber iNumberals as iwell.

Nov 16th, 2008 | By Premnath Sah | Category: 150 cc bike, Reviews & Comparisons, Technology

After making R15, India’s only super sport 150cc bike Yamaha has not slept or become complacent with their achievement.

They has released FZ16: A TORQUE GOD as they say. You should see the performance numbers to know for yourself what we mean by torque god. It makes 14Nm @ 6000 RPM of Torque which is second best in 150cc segment only bested by R15.

To give you a perpective it is almost 1Nm more than Apache RTR FI. That’s not the end you get a peak power of 14PS @ 7000 RPM.  Though Apache RTR has 15.2 PS of peak performance, It is achieved at  8500 RPM which is 1500 RPM more than YZ16.

Zunavision: Novel software by Stanford university students/prof to embed video/image inside video

Nov 16th, 2008 | By Premnath Sah | Category: Applications, Imaging, Technology

Stanford artificial intelligence researchers have developed software that makes it easy to reach inside an existing video and place a photo on the wall so realistically that it looks like it was there from the beginning. The photo is not pasted on top of the existing video, but embedded in it It works for videos as well - you can play a video on a wall inside your video. The technology can cheaply do some of the tricks normally performed by expensive commercial editing systems.

Western Digital’s energy Efficient Caviar Hard drives

Oct 6th, 2008 | By Premnath Sah | Category: Technology

Western Digital has announced the second-generation of its highly popular and environmentally friendly WD(R) Caviar(R) Green(TM) desktop hard drives, which feature the company’s GreenPower(TM) technology to significantly reduce power consumption, compared with standard hard drives. The new
platform is based on WD’s 333 GB/platter technology with 32 MB cache, producing capacities ranging from 500 GB to 1 TB.

Cool, Quiet Hard Drives

IntelliPower:

A fine-tuned balance of spin speed, transfer rate and caching algorithms designed to deliver both significant power savings and solid performance. Additionally, GreenPower drives consume less current during startup allowing lower peak loads on systems as they are booted.

IntelliSeek:

Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise, and vibration.

NoTouch ramp load technology:

Designed to ensure the recording head never touches the disk media resulting in significantly less wear to the recording head and media, as well as better drive protection in transit.

MSRP for the WD Caviar Green 1 TB hard drives(model WD10EADS) is $219.00 USD
