Nikon outs super–specced P6000

Aug 7th, 2008 | By Rosh PR | Category: Camera, Gadgets, New Cameras, Photography

Nikon has just outed another – the new Coolpix P6000. Billed as a top of the range compact, but with all the specs you’d expect from a bridge camera, it really is a treat.

For your £429, you get a 14MP sensor, 4x optical zoom and a 2.7in screen round the back for spying your pics as you take them.

The real story here though is the fact you can take snaps in RAW format, hooking them up to Windows Image Component and working your magic with them on your PC.

You also get a “GPS position stamp”, essentially posh speak for geotagging. Leave the GPS on and data about your location will be stashed and available whenever you hook your camera up to your PC, so you can use the likes of Google Maps to see exactly where you took that shot after a few fizzy vodkas.

Leaf AFi 10 camera busts out 56 megapixels

Aug 2nd, 2008 | By Rosh PR | Category: Gadgets, Hot Photo, New Cameras, Photography

We were just musing about how megapixels aren’t everything, and then this 56-megapixel Leaf AFi 10 camera comes along. This monster even tops that 50-megapixel Hasselblad H3DII-50 that so impressed us a couple of weeks ago. Pro shooters will love the Leaf’s “Verto” technology that eliminates the need for rotating the camera to take portrait-oriented shots, instead rotating the 56×36mm CCD sensor inside the camera with a quick button push. Neat.

This camera is the digital equivalent of what’s called “medium format” in film photography. That format gives you a 350% larger negative for higher resolution and finer detail. You can expect a similar performance boost in this camera over the best digital SLRs, but you’ll pay dearly for the privilege when it’s released later this year — that $37,000 Hasselblad looks like a bargain next to this Leaf AFi 10, which will cost you a cool $43,675.

Casio EXILIM Zoom EX-Z150

Jul 14th, 2008 | By Rosh PR | Category: New Cameras, Photography

Casio’s new EX-Z150 features that biggie LCD plus CCD-shift image stabilization, a 28-mm wide angle lens, 4x optical zoom, an 8.1 megapixel 1/2.5-inch CCD, and face detection all from a camera that sits somewhere well south of the top of the EXILIM Zoom-series. And since this is the age of self-immolation by video humiliation, the EX-Z150 also features a YouTube capture mode — branded marketing-speak for saying that it shoots 640 x 480 at 30fps for up to 10 minutes at a time.

Face Detection function: The simple touch

Whether you’re on holiday, at a party or spending time with your family - people are particularly popular subjects for a photo. It’s always a pity when faces turn out blurred on a picture. The Face Detection function now offers the perfect solution, recognizing the individual faces or even entire groups, and automatically applying the best possible setting.
